ASCS Regions Geared up for Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day Weekend marks the last big weekend of regularly scheduled dirt track racing for most areas of the United States. With that in mind, the regions of the American Sprint Car Series will see plenty of competition as six have races on tap.

Midwest / Warrior

Coming together for a Friday night at U.S. 36 Raceway, the Speedway Motors ASCS Midwest and Warrior Regions will square off this Friday August 31st. Friday marks the fourth time the two regions have come together to complete at the high-banked oval in Cameron, Missouri. In their June 16th showing it was Jack Dover who grabbed the win for the Midwest Region. Adding the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour on July 3rd, Jason Johnson scored the win but it was Kyle Bellm who grabbed the high point’s position for the Warrior Region.

In round three it was Kaley Gharst taking the top spot, leaving the Warrior Region looking to settle the score this weekend.

Southwest

After a very long break, the ASCS Southwest Region will finally see some action in the “Land of Enchantment” with a pair of nights at the Aztec Speedway in Aztec, New Mexico. Scheduled for September 1st and 2nd, the 33rd annual Floyd Reynolds Memorial will also include the NMMRA Non Wing Sprint Cars as well as the CLMA Late Models.

Rick Ziehl currently shows the way by a slim seven points over Dalten Gabbard with Lance Norick, Joshua Williams, and J.T. Imperial making up the top five.

Sprints on Dirt

The Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP continue their busy season this Friday August 31st and Saturday September 1st. Friday night will see the Sprints on Dirt make the season’s lone appearance at the Winston Motor Speedway in Rothbury, MI before heading to the familiar Crystal Motor Speedway in Crystal, MI.

Gregg Dalman holds a comfortable 83 point lead over Ryan Grubaugh going into this weekend’s races with Ryan Ruhl, Brett Mann, and Andy Teunessen rounding out the top five.

Gulf South

Heading into the final stretch of the 2012 season, two of the final four race dates for the Griffith Truck and Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region will be contested this Saturday September 1st at the Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas and Sunday September 2nd at the Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas.

Seeking his fourth Gulf South title, Ray Allen Kulhanek currently leads by 167 markers over Brandon Berryman. Michael McNeil, Travis Elliot, and Tommy Bryant make up the top five.

Northwest

After a month off, the ASCS Northwest Region returns to Willamette Speedway on Sunday September 2nd. According to ASCS Northwest PR Director Ben Deatheage, this Sunday’s event will utilize a special event format with time trials plus and eight car dash scheduled to take place.

This Sunday’s event is the final chance for drivers to get in position before heading into the Yakima for the season finale on September 21st and 22nd.
Currently Henry VanDam leads the win over Reece Goetz, Roger Crockett, Mitch Olsen, with Cam Smith rounding out the top five.

Results and re-caps from this weekend’s regional events will be posted as soon as we are able to.
